Affordable ACT training

Post by lizzabadger » Sat Aug 09, 2014 6:39 pm

Does anyone know of low-cost Acceptance and Commitment Therapy training in the London area please? I would like to do some as CPD as I think it is likely to be helpful for the population I work with (people with brain injury and/or chronic illnesses).

http://contextualscience.org/calendar

Have a look at the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science site - they have a searchable calendar which tells you what sort of ACT training is on where. In general, this site is also a really good resource for learning about ACT from the comfort of your sofa, there's loads of info and materials on it. Highly recommend having a browse!

ACT made simple is a great starting point, as it gives you session by session guides which while you might not follow them exactly gives you an idea of what an ACT therapy session would look like. Another good book to give you more info on ACT processes and exercises is "Get out of your mind and into your life".

There is a one day training event at Birmingham University - £95 for ACT with people with chronic illnesses - on 14th November. Can't tell you if its any good - but I have booked a place on it! There were a few other courses advertised there as well. (sorry realised you asked about London - but I'll leave it there in case it interested others)

the ACBS wesite as someone has said is great for info on courses - also loads of resources on there if you join - no specified fee (they suggest donations and I think I donated £10 for a year's membership) - it's been worth it for free resources etc for me. Also for identifying youtube resources - some great podcasts by Russ Harris etc and youtube clips that are good for the metaphors and I have used in sessions.

enjoy!

Thanks Mungle!

Wonder if there is any significance to having it in a zoo?!
