BABCP CBT accreditation during DClinPsy

Postby Sushiroll » Wed May 17, 2017 11:41 am

Hi all,

I will be starting the DClinPsy this september (yay!!) and am intrigued to know people's views on some courses offering a BABCP CBT pathway within the course? I understand that for psychologists that hope to go on to work in IAPT this may be beneficial however I can't see the need and relevance for this as a Clinical Psychologist. Apologies if I have missed something here! What do others think?

Why not be accredited in an evidence based therapy technique as well as the more general clinical training?
Maven.

BABCP CBT accreditation during DClinPsy

There is also an argument that one of our drawbacks is that we are currently unable to supervise IAPT CBT therapists for their CBT work and therefore in some settings, may struggle to demonstrate our worth over another professional who IS able to offer this supervision.

I also agree with Maven and think there is a huge amount of value in gaining accreditation in our own 'specialist' therapeutic approaches once qualified, rather than being seen as a jack of all trades and master of none.

Ah these are great points. Thank you for your responses - I have applied for it so hoping I get it now! Great point about supervision and another way of demonstrating our worth!

Accreditation is quite arduous though and requires an ongoing caseload of (i think) 50% CBT. I too was interested but have been a bit dissuaded by the ongoing requirement.
