Future Me

Post by CatFace » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:29 am

Hi all,

Has anybody used this website?:

www.futureme.org

You can send yourself an email to the future! I've just done one - I think it's a lovely idea :)

Me too.

I think that's brilliant.

It could work for life story therapy for Huntington's, may also be interesting for people with ABI?

Or with survivors, or people who are bereaved, or just anyone who would benefit from looking forward to a preferred future!

My boyfriend told me about this a while ago. He's sent the future me a message....but i won't recieve it for 20 years!!

I think it would be quite a nice thing to send messages to all your loved ones far ahead in the future so if you unexpectidly passed away, they would have that message to look forward to. On the other hand some people might find that a bit creepy.

Hmm, I wonder if that relies on their servers still being active in 20 years' time?

Or something along the lines of

"Yes, your bum actually did look big in that"

"It was me that broke that vase, sorry"

:D

wouldn't it also rely on you having the same email address in 20 years?

This is a really long throwback/bump - but wanted to say that this website is still active, and I just got the email that I sent myself in 2010! I only knew to post here because past me wrote "I just recommended this website on ClinPsy - wonder if either website will still be going when I get it back".

I was an AP then, I am qualified now and actually do use this therapeutically with patients - mostly around goal setting and/or writing something to themselves about how they felt at the end of therapy. For people who are less able with technology - I get them to write a note to themselves and seal it, and then I post it to them at some random point (usually about 6 months later).

Love this! Thanks for sharing, CatFace :)

Future me will be receiving a motivational little message to keep me going through the course. Will be interesting to see how I feel reading it and looking back on the journey so far.

Can totally see the therapeutic benefit in this too, it's a great idea.
