'considered for interview shortlisting 2018'

Postby SamXO » Mon Feb 05, 2018 7:14 pm

Hi all,

Im writing today a little bit confused and dazed. I received an email around an hour ago from uni of Edinburgh saying that id passed the initial screening test and now id be considered for the interview (based on some things I have to complete and send back). Now its just the initial screening process ive passed and ive gone from around 590 people to 550 which isn't much; I KNOW and I probably won't get much further but im just so shocked and happy! anyone else received this email today? Part of me is thinking its just a hoax!

What they have sent you is just an acknowledgement you meet the basic requirements for applying, and then the tasks on which they will shortlist. I'd really be cautious about getting excited over what is basically an acknowledgement, and vesting too much emotion in this process.

Hi,

Just curious... Has anyone heard from Leicester?
First time I've applied there and I haven't heard anything.

I've also applied Trent, Leeds and Sheffield. If anyone had heard from them either please let me know :) .

Not holding my breath, but gotta try!

Thanks,

Amy.

Congrats Sam.

Maven, I cant help but feel you're trying to suck the excitement/curiosity/joy out of an applicant's experience. They acknowledge themselves they might not get any further, I don't find your attempt at managing expectations helpful or appropriate.

I think Maven is speaking from years of experience of seeing people ride this emotional roller-coaster, and often suffer for it. I think that everyone's experience is unique, and we can't tell others how they should feel. However, I've also seen so many people get so excited and happy at an early stage, and then have a bigger crash down when their application is rejected at a later stage. Still, it's people's individual responsibility to approach the whole thing in the way they want to, so if that excitement helps in some way, then you do you. It's just that some of us will want to warn you about the possible (but not definite) pitfalls of doing that.

We’ve long had discussions on this site about whether universal encouragement is helpful or appropriate compared to the experience-grounded realism that many early stage aspiring CPs might see as cynicism or “sucking the joy out of it”. I’d like to think we aim for balance, but I view it as an important and positive role of the site to have the objective overview that comes from our more experienced members. Cynicism may be a more appropriate perspective in the current context of austerity and issues with the bps, regulation and profile of the profession, even if it doesn’t match the millennial stereotype of “everyone can be a winner”.

Thank you! I agree with you comment completely but I didn't want to say anything. x
