Invitation to free Leic DClinpsy Trainee Research conference

Postby Mark » Mon Aug 21, 2017 10:23 pm

Hi all,

I just wanted to post a message to invite whoever is interested to attend our FREE 'Paying It Forward' Trainee Research Conference. This is an event that will be hosted by the current 3rd year cohort of Trainee Clinical Psychologists at the University of Leicester.

As the current (and soon to be finishing) 3rd year cohort, we are hosting a free conference on Tuesday 19th September to showcase the findings from our research projects. This is a completely free conference and will include a free lunch. It will be an all day event with registration from 09:00 and to start at 09:30 and is currently due to go on until 17:00. There are 5 of our year group presenting research findings, we have a Anne Cooke (Year Director of the Salomons Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and BPS Practitioner of the Year 2016) delivering a key-note speech, and a poster presentation segment. In addition there will be a social action segment offering a space for attendees to think about how they could 'Pay It Forward' by contributing to their local communities, or the option of attending a facilitated Mindfulness activity.

We feel as though this day could be incredibly interesting and useful to any current Assistant Psychologists wanting to apply to any of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology courses nationwide. In addition, this could be incredibly interesting and useful to anyone wanting to acquire an Assistant Psychologist position and with aspirations of gaining a place on Clinical Training. This day would be a brilliant opportunity to gain some awareness of the types of Doctoral-level research projects undertaken during Clinical Training (both Qualitative and Quantitative). In addition, it would provide opportunities to come up and speak to us during the day during breaks in order to find out about experiences of being on the course, what routes we took in pursuit of gaining a place on the course, and to get any useful tips relevant to you of what you can do to boost your chances.

We would be absolutely delighted if you were available on the day and wanted to come along.

You can book a place by emailing our course secretary, Carl Gudgeon, on cmg16@leicester.ac.uk and requesting to attend. If you would like to attend, I would advise that you do not delay too much in booking a place as this may start to fill up fast, and there is a maximum capacity in the venue with attendance on a first come, first served basis.

If you would like any more information about the conference before deciding whether you'd like to attend, please don't hesitate to ask.

We hope to see you there.

Best wishes,

Mark Loveder

I should probably say as well, if you do have any questions about the conference that you'd like to ask us, another way to contact us is to visit the Twitter page our 3rd year cohort run - @DClinPsy2014 and you can post any questions about it on there too.

Many thanks, Mark

Sounds great.

Newcastle University also offer access to the final year research presentations (but with a whole lot less free lunch! ), and it runs every year in June. Hope to see local clinpsy folks there some year.

Good luck to the Leicester third years in their presentations - hope you get the chance to enjoy it x

Ah thanks very much!! :D

That's great to hear that Newcastle University also host a similar type of event! If it's ok, I will pass that info on to our current 2nd years, 1st years, and also incoming 1st years?

It would be great if more often, as is happening here, the courses could communicate with each other to spread news about the fantastic events they host and the brilliant work/ research Trainees do that could be informative and of benefit to others.

This year we learnt that the three Yorkshire courses (Hull, Leeds, Sheffield) combine to host a similar Trainee Research Conference, and this is at the end of June too. They also advertise this on their Twitter page.

I hope your conference went well in June. :D

Best wishes,

Mark

Sorry for the poor quality of this photo, but attached is the outline for the day of our FREE Trainee Research Conference on Tuesday 19th Sept.

Lots of fantastic research projects being presented from a variety of different methodologies (quantitative and qualitative).
