I want to start the application process of applying for masters, however, realistically I won't be able to finance it until 2011 entry. I was just wondering if uni's are quite open to deferring or whether it will put a black dot next to your name if you re-apply?

I just wonder why you would bother applying this time if you can't afford to do it yet? Why not focus your energies on working, getting experience and raising the money to do it? Then apply when you are ready. Am I missing the point here?

I'd have to agree with astra here, doesn't seem to make much sense?

Hiya, don't know if this helps, but when I completed my MSc in Research Methods at UCL, a friend of mine on the course applied for the MSc in 2004, but did not start until Sept 2005. She was allowed to defer her start date in order to raise funds for the MSc.

I would say just apply when you're ready to do it - in my experience it's pretty easy to get onto an MSc couse!

I guess I'm just getting a little inpatient and wishing I could go back to uni this year but alas finances will not allow me to! Also, if I knew I had been accepted onto a course I think I'd be more encouraged to save Rolling Eyes

I'm currently on to do an MSc to start this sept, but due to finances taking a dive after unexpected expenses, I'm left looking at deferring entry. The uni seem fine with this, and its seeming a more realistic option for me now.
