Re: Should I give up on 'the dream'?
All you can do is give it a go and see what happens! I got a 2:1 in my BSc and had very limited experience clinically prior to getting on training. My experience was mainly in research and more general roles like Smoking Cessation, Tenancy Support and voluntary work with MIND etc. I applied on the o...

Re: LEICESTER 2011-2014 COHORT
I wanted to say good luck to you all too! I am a current 3rd year so all being well I will have finished when you all start. I agree with the pp - have some fun before you start the course because it's an arduous process (especially the 3rd year!!!) Overall it's been enjoyable though and I'm glad I ...

Band 7 CAMHS post
Hi all I have an interview in a couple of weeks for a ST contract in CAMHS. It is my first ever CP interview as I am still in my final year of training. Does anyone have any tips for me about what to brush up on or the types of questions they may ask? I have to do a 10 min case presentation and I kn...

Re: Trainee Clinical Studies officer interview 28/4/11
Hi This may be a bit late, but I was a CSO for a year or so. I didn't have to do any exercises or anything in my interview, but one question I was asked was what did I know about research governance  ! I actually admitted I knew very little but could learn and still got the job, but would be ...

Re: Anyone going to the Leicester selection days?
Oh sorry, not been on here for ages, it's all changed! Just knew the selection was coming up so thought I would pop in as I was feeling nostalgic!

Re: Anyone going to the Leicester selection days?
From memory, I think we were sorted into different groups so the order of tasks varied a bit. I think I did the group task first, then the interview, then the role play but not 100% sure. Then there was a reflective written task at the end of the day. As I say though, they may have changed things so...

Anyone going to the Leicester selection days?
Hi I am currently in my 3rd year there and am in thesis-writing Hell but just thought I would wish you all good luck! :D I remember it as if it was yesterday and can't believe I am now 6 months off finishing - scary! If you have any questions I'll try and answer them, though I'm not sure if ...

Sounds about right to me! I think our year are rebellious adolescents. We got into trouble over rearranging a group without consulting tutors the other day and many of us are skirting around the issue of actually submitting our research proposals for peer review! We lost one of our cohort at the end...

I think the course is quite enjoyable. There have been times when I've found it tough, like when we have coursework deadlines and at the start when I struggled with formulation, but overall it is interesting and varied and I love most of the client work! I just wish there were more hours in a day!!!...

Hey Ste! Glad you're hanging in there. I am also finding it hard to juggle everything, especially with 2 kids to sort out as well, I am all over the place and living in a pig sty - but never mind! It would be really nice to get a proper summer break like at Uni, I feel like I need to catch up with m...

I don't think I said that young trainees necessarily wouldn't have any life experience. I myself was 19 when I got married, 20 when I became a Mum! In some cases, however, I think the selection process employed by certain institutions focusses a bit too much on knowledge (eg. of research methods, th...

I personally believe that the amount of clinical experience you have had before training is fairly irrelevant. I think you need a certain degree of academic competence but more than anything I think you require a certain level of maturity, some life experience and skills in communication and being w...
