Re: 2018 Doctorate Application Progress thread

Plymouth Exeter South Wales Bath First time applying. They say you don't need Assistant Psychologist experience to get onto a course but that is obviously nonsense. The universities might not have AP experience as a requirement but if 100+ applicants applying to the same uni as you have all held AP...

Re: Funding

I am not sure if I am reading this right or even if it is clear at all... The email that reishi kindly posted seems to suggest that universities have been guaranteed funding to provide places but not it's not clear if that means salary support has been agreed?

Re: Funding

You make some really interesting points Spatch - some I agree with and some I don't. To be honest, I do think there is some justification for ending salary support for Clin Psych training. After all, it is a ridiculously overly privileged position - doctors, nurses, other mental health professionals...

Re: Funding

Last year the funding was confirmed by the end of September so courses and applicants knew well in advance of interviews. However, as I said in an earlier post, we were told at an interview that this year (2017 entry) was likely to be the last year things are funded as they are. I think it is very e...

Re: Funding

We were told at an interview I attended last year that last year would be the last year for funding. I agree with OP's view that it seems crazy to do it without notice - at least a year or two as people are making decisions aimed at a pathway that may not even exist or at least be viable.

Deferral of place

Hello everyone I know this is quiet season on the forum but I wondered if anyone had any guidance on my question. I am fortunate enough to have a place on training this year but have had something very difficult happen in my personal life. Obviously I want to start training but am aware of the deman...

Re: How old is too old for training?

I have a friend who has been offered a place this year who is 48 so it is definitely possible to get into CP later in life. I have also seen other people post in the past about getting onto training in their late 40s. I also heard that there was someone in their early 50s on one course. So, Heslop a...

Re: Leeds current trainees?

Thanks for all helpful info from current Leeds trainees and the OP for questions. I have not applied this year but am trying to decide whether to apply for clinical next year or take a different career path which I have to make a decision on in the next couple of weeks. Could anyone give me an idea ...

Re: Escaping IAPT

Thanks for starting this great thread. I am in a similar position - a HI therapist in IAPT and wanting out. I think all the ideas about alternative settings in the NHS are great in theory but there is one fundamental difficulty that I have experienced. That is the issue of a 'core profession'. So, b...

Stats question

I am trying to do a small piece of research at work and am realizing that my stats/research design stuff is very rusty. I am more used to doing quali research so a bit out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to check out with some of you genius people out there who do this stuff effortlessly (!) wheth...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

Respect to everyone who has posted their reds. It's easy to post success, but takes far more to open up about rejection, and most won't. However, please do as there is comfort in numbers and the more people that do post red shows the brutal reality of the process. If people only post interviews and...

Re: IAPT HI

Hi Lexi Sorry that you have had disappointing news - I know from having had unsuccessful CP interviews how difficult it is to prepare and work so hard for something and not be successful. However, you did very well to get an interview as the HI course is very competitive. I can't speak from personal...

Re: Interview failures to successes

Annie I'm so sorry - that must be really demoralizing but you did so well to get interviews first time around. I can't answer your question but would be curious about another related question. Does anyone know if places that turn you down after interview (no reserve offer...) will not shortlist you ...
