Re: S.O.S Interventions for Autistic Individuals

This might be a bit late but look at the NICE Challenging Behaviour Guidelines, ABA is a good move if it's used in that service things are moving towards more Positive Behaviour Support which incorporates ABA and is worth a look at too :) It's also worth thinking about yourself as well and how you w...

Re: Deciding to withdraw from the process

I think your view is very limited some people invest a lot of time, energy and money into developing before even getting on the doctorate with no guarantee that they ever will and this can involve huge personal sacrifices including relationships, moving for jobs, waiting to have kids, buying a house...

Re: Deciding to withdraw from the process

I think having read Rapid's post earlier that I can see why people would think that withdrawing is brave - resisting the urge to find out if one of those other applications could have turned into an interview would be very difficult for most. But that's assuming that Rapid hasn't reached the end of ...

Re: Forensic Psychology - Advice on what jobs

I just wanted to add... (I'm sure you already are doing this) but try and be creative in where you're looking for jobs, I've seen youth offending posts advertised on my local council's website. Maybe take a chance and shoot a few letters/CVs off to your local Youth Offending Teams (even if they can'...

Re: Forensic Psychology - Advice on what jobs

Hi Natalie, I've read both your posts, I just wanted to say that although a forensic role would probably be better for you in the short term (I've never worked for Priory sorry so no idea what it's like) there's no reason why the Autism post would not be relevant. I'm not sure if I've got the wrong ...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. Just cancelled a very promising interview because work don't want to lose me and have made me an interesting offer... 2. Offer involves proving myself in an interview and possibly a presentation task in front of colleagues... already terrified of embarrassing myself! 3. Really worried that 1 will...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1.) Writing mental health and physical health scenario's for simulation training is actually quite challenging. I'm struggling just making up fictitious names I have to make up fictitious names at work I usually use fictional characters (like the x-men's real names or use the names of actors/actres...

Re: getting AP posts

Some companies already have someone internal in mind for the post and they just have to prove themselves at interview - it's mega frustrating but I've been in this position when applying for internal roles in private companies (as an unsuccessful candidate) more than once and (unprofessionally imo) ...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

5. Not sure whether it's my health or everything I've had to cope with over the past three years but I'm losing motivation to keep jumping through hoops for jobs. I've applied for loads of jobs recently and then it gets to interview day and I think... 'I can't be bothered', 'This isn't actually wha...

1. Had two hours sleep last night, was late for group supervision away day and will be getting the Spanish Inquisition on Monday from our top boss... in my defence I've got several health issues going on at the minute but walking into a room of 25 colleagues and being the only one late was a bit of ...

Re: agression/violence towards CP's especially when training

Also just wanted to say that I didn't particularly enjoy Tanya's book. Obviously it's based on her work but it's also fictionalised/dramatised. There were a couple of scenarios in the book where I thought she was not very risk aware herself (I think the pinned down situation) whether this genuinely ...

Re: agression/violence towards CP's especially when training

Hi, I'm not qualified - I think it completely depends on the setting but technically you could be at some sort of risk from any service-user. Settings such as LD, Autism, Brain Injury and Mental Health might carry more of a risk of physical aggresion and violence. It's probably worth pointing out th...

Re: What experience did you have when you got on training?

Badscience it's nice to hear the life experience as well as the work and academic. I often get bitter and feel that others have had an easier ride in their personal life than me and it spirals into too much anxiety and introspection and self-doubt. Sometimes I forget that these experiences can becom...

Re: Clinical Psychology Doctorate Interview Advice

This is really interesting I always tend to go overdressed rather than underdressed to any interview. I am quite an anxious person so even for the clinical interview I took two of everything in case something went wrong. Although I drive my husband mad as I wear clothes depending on how I feel on th...
