Re: Private CBT training - what do I need to know?

I completed my PGDip privately, in Oxford. I was working in a talking therapies service as a PWP at the time, and was allowed to see high intensity clients as a trainee, so was paid still as part of my current role. I know some people on my cohort were lucky enough to have a similar arrangement, alt...

Re: CBT training

This is probably a silly/ obvious question but I wonder if anyone can help... Is the only way to do a masters/ pgdip in cbt as an iapt trainee? If not- do you still have to have a core profession? And if you train independently of iapt, does this preclude you from working as a cbt therapist within ...

Re: KSA help

What about asking in your workplace if there is anything that they would like you to review? Or contact a local psychology service and offer to do a small piece of work for them? My guess is something in the context of a work environment will be given more credit, but that may be an incorrect assump...

Re: KSA portfolio - any advice?

Hi Ppepper25 I just wanted to ask how long it took you to compile the portfolio? And it might seem like a stupid question but how important has it been, I understand you need to submit this but some people talk of their portfolio not being looked at. I wonder how well written, formal and all togeth...

Re: High Intensity application - personal statement

I would assume they won't read anything beyond 4000 word's so stick to that, regardless of where you write it.
I would sympathise with how many they must read and keep it short, relevant and interesting. Don't waffle on for the sake of padding it out.

Re: Struggling financially to gain experience?

Hey Psypassion. I think the answer to your question is people cope financially in whichever way the can, and for some they may feel like they aren't coping. Having pursued a route different to clinical psychology (initially through IAPT), fortunately, I haven't been in a position as tough as you, al...

Re: KSA portfolio - any advice?

I completed mine recently for accreditation following completion of a level one course. I'm not going to lie, I found it absolutely torturous. Tips: 1. Print the 14 criteria and just bullet point the relevant experience/training examples you could use for each one, and also a person who could counte...

Re: KSA time restrictions

I wonder why that rule exists for the level 2 route?
I'm not sure if it's different for other routes, I really don't see the point in it, and there's no mention of it on the BABCP website, it just talks about submitting the KSA with the provisional application.

KSA time restrictions

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any current knowledge on this. I'm applying for accreditation through the KSA route, having completed a level 1 accredited CBT course. I am currently (and frantically) completing my KSA, hoping to get it completed before a job change so that I can advertise mysel...

Re: Leaving IAPT before completing PWP training?

OK, so you're a few months in as opposed to a few weeks, so that's good! Certain iapt services, like the one I'm in, is a lot less typical of pure iapt. All our work is face to face, unless someone wants a phone appointment, and we have upto 45 minutes at step 2, and I only do 1 workshop a week, and...

Re: Leaving IAPT before completing PWP training?

I know of a fee people who dropped out of the course in the first few weeks, however I'm not sure of the circumstances around this. How far into it are you, and what parts of the role are you struggling with/not enjoying? Personally, as it's less than a year's course, I would stick it out, just so y...

In my letter this link was referred to: https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim06237 stating 'if you believe you satisfy the conditions of the Statement of Practice 4/86 (https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim06237) and are entitled to a r...

Re: Any success for tax refund while training?

So I submitted an individual claim for my year as a pwp trainee. My reply back said 'the responsibility to correct any overpaid tax and NICs for tax years 2013 onwards is with the NHS trust that you completed your training with...... If your employer confirms that you meet the necessary conditions t...

Re: Do I really need accreditation?

Hey, I'm from the CBT world as opposed to counselling, however have colleagues that practice privately. I believe you, in fact anyone, can practice privately as a counsellor/therapist as it's not a protected title. I think at the very least being registered with BACP is recommended, and then I think...
