Re: Cohort demographics Essex and IoP?

Thanks for your reply Maven wow I didn't realise the percentage was so high for 20s. Is the alternative handbook a free resource online? I'm aware some courses value life experience more than other courses so might expect older intakes at these, but just wonder what it's like at these 3 courses in p...

Anyone ever 'transferred' from a DClin?

Just wondering if anyone has had cause to leave the dclin and start it somewhere else? I dont think transferring is possible, even to another course like counselling or a PhD, but re-entering the clin psy application process must have occurred somewhere for whatever reason like illness or relationsh...

Cohort demographics Essex and IoP?

Hi guys
I'm thinking of applying this year to Essex IoP and maybe UEA. Just wondering if anyone knows what the demographics of these courses are like, particularly the age ranges? I'm older and I wouldn't like to be in a cohort of a low age range eg 24-30.
Hope to hear back
Cheers.

Re: Surrey/Salomons live chat past papers

Thanks Victoriomantic - but no 2016 in there!

Anyone know if there was ever a Livechat discussion held on the 2016 Surrey paper and if so is there a transcript?

If not is anyone interested in a Livechat about the 2016 paper?

Wondering if there was ever a Live Chat transcript of this made available? Going over the 2016 paper and could do with it.

Re: Training in Clinical Psychology too stressful?

I guess you're right Miriam. I just worry about the traditional unforgiving real world response. Easier to negotiate when you're actually in a position. Plus, with these conditions it's hard to know how the course will impact on them - maybe the aggravating factor is not being on the course

Re: Should I enjoy all aspects of clinical psychology?

So many good points in there. Ell yes it's sometimes so difficult to see any other options when you become blinkered. And of course every pre-trainee will be thinking 'yea well that's easy for you to tell us to explore other options when you're qualified'.. :) The way i see it now is that interview ...

Re: Agenda For Change (AfC): Bandings, Profiles, Pay, etc

Ah, of course. Gosh - fingers crossed the disruption isn't too great - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/676185/NHSPRB_evidence_for_OME_PDF1.pdf The economic modelling used must be pretty complex. Value within services is mentioned as a possible indicator of n...

Modernising Agenda For Change (AfC)?

It is worth highlighting that this post has been substantially edited to bring it up to date with the current landscape, including the differences in the ways the devolved nations have implemented minimum/living wage and pay freezes/uplifts, resulting in some differences in the pay scales across th...

Re: Should I enjoy all aspects of clinical psychology?

It's crazy right?! That at the end of it all, we are doing all of this for a job. In my experience a job that, and I hope I don't offend, does not justify the wait for training. For people that are on their own making a life for themselves, the sacrifice is all too often over-whelming. It makes me t...

Re: Should I enjoy all aspects of clinical psychology?

Lol Ell you can be sure of it, I'd be lucky to keep it if I stated that in a uni! Of course I have respect for the academic world, it can be really frustrating in its own right. Yes you're right, well I suppose when we are all aspiring to this very very difficult to access profession it fosters self...

Re: Is pre-trainee exp relevant to post-training job seeking

It'd be really disheartening to think that years and years of hard graft for relatively low pay at assistant stage while playing the annual CP lottery was for nothing, seeing as some get on so early. Although some CP's have substantial experience before training, many do not, and my guess is a lot o...

Re: Can an employer rescind a job offer?

Bravado was the wrong word, bravery or nerve perhaps more what I meant, apologies. You've described something there BlueCat I've wondered about for some time, remaining open, honest, centralised, objective during interactions. For me, it helps to almost shed emotionality from interactions, keeps me ...

Is pre-trainee exp relevant to post-training job seeking?

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed light on the job market after training. If for example I wanted to work in a specialist CP post in CAMHS, what weight would experience as an AP in that setting give my application? Or is the slate more or less wiped clean? I have seen in some of those job descri...
