Re: Fixed term contract and pregnancy

If you have any NHS employment prior to this post, this will count towards your entitlement too.

Re: I want to do too many things!

What is appealing to you about each of the career paths? I think there's definitely potential for activism within Psychology and I wonder if you'd find social work quite constraining in reality - based on my experience of working with social workers, they always seem overwhelmed and overworked. I su...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. Feeling upset and angry about a discussion happening on my facebook page about LGBT rights. According to one of my facebook 'friends,' human rights are the cause of "so much trouble in this country." Apparently it's ok for a lesbian couple to get beaten up on a public bus because "nobody wants t...

Re: Trainee PWP interview - Kaleidoscope Plus Group

The last time I asked a similar question on here I was accused of trying to cheat... :| So best of luck getting an answer to your question! I do think sometimes we could be a little more balanced on how we tell people that they can't ask or share interview questions - however, I believe that there'...

Re: Jordan Peterson - why do practitioners not like him?

Am I allowed to just think he's an arrogant prick or do I need a more nuanced argument than that?

Re: Forensic over clinical?

Hi Echoing what Miriam said - I know a few people who were trainee forensic psychologists then applied for clinical and were successful. I don't know much about the situation now, but it used to take people years to do their forensic chartership, so I think a lot of people would get frustrated and l...

Edinburgh is pretty much always the last one at 5pm on deadline day, and they may have even gone past that one year.

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

Congratulations Miriam. So good to see that all the hard work and effort is paying off. Let's hope the business continues to go from strength to strength. P.S. Congrats Miriam. :) I read about BERRI on your blog once and it sounds like a really useful tool. Something like that would have made a big...

Re: Reserve list for places 2019

A brief update for fellow reserves at Leeds - there's been some movement at the bottom of the reserve list and 10 out of the 16 have accepted. I'm first reserve so can post again if/when I hear anything :salut: Does anyone know if Leeds tends to use its reserve list? I know it's one of the later co...

Re: Jordan Peterson - why do practitioners not like him?

My answer is far less eloqent than Workingmama's but I agree with everything she says and wanted to add that it irks me that he is probably the most famous clinical psychologist. I do not want people thinking that he speaks for my profession. He doesn't. I would really appreciate some of our male co...

Thank you Miriam. I hope people who have read the thread have at least taken something from the conversation (mainly don't mess with Miriam, Saf and AnsweringBell).

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

The group which is most significantly underrepresented, relative to their proportion in the UK population as a whole, is men. In the engineering profession, which has a similar gender imbalance in the opposite direction, they are trying to tackle this by offering female-only scholarships (equivalen...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

Socio-economic factors have also been considered as part of the problem (BAME populations are more likely to come from less affluent communities). However, again there is an increase in acceptances from people originating from the lower quintiles whilst BAME acceptance continues to decline (despite...

Re: Issues with Diversity in Clin Psy Trainees Recruitment

I would agree with JB99 - age alone doesn't really tell us enough about a candidate to know why they may have not been successful at interview.
