Re: maternity leave discrimination?

Seems a bit inconsistent on their part.... If someone doesn't have the required 2 years exp or meet the person spec for the role then why offer it in the first place? Why offer it then say but we're going to pay you less. Ok then, re-write the JD and give you band 7 responsibilities for the few mont...

Re: No idea how to prepare for a clinical interview!

If you know there will be clinical and/or research vignettes as part of the interview maybe practice a few and think about follow up questions and answers. This is something maybe bit more structured you could do. I personally found the vignette practice on the live chat here to be quite helpful. Do...

Re: Qualified area?

How does one join/access the qualified area? Sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere, I tried searching but couldn't find anything. I finished training last month, got HPC, just started my first clinical psychologist position.

Re: Referees Quandry x 3

I last applied for training in 2008 for 2009 entry, and just finished the course, so I’m not up to date on the application process. However, from my experience I can comment: 1. I used my supervisor from a research position I held for my academic reference. In previous applications I put down my dis...

Re: Spatch's guide for those of you about to start training

I think that is all about true. I called three supervisors after getting the magic phone call to waffle thanks down the phone. I also had a nice holiday before starting training and put a few mementos in my pencil case, that are still there now. I used to look at them in lectures or when there was a...

NICE guidelines for anxiety in children?

I should probably know the answer to this, but are there any NICE guidelines for anxiety and children? All I can find is the guidelines for adults that says that it does not cover the care of those under 18. I have some other resources though such as "choosing what's best for you", and "Drawing on t...

Re: Which stats/research book?

oh thank you everyone, so helpful! I didn't realise there was a wiki sorry. Ok, it seems that there are a few books worth looking into. I was thinking about buying one or two but actually I might first go spend some time in a library and see what they are all like and probably pick and mix a bit as ...

Which stats/research book?

Hi All, I’m in need of a good statistics/SPSS/trying to understand different statistical tests related book. Oh, and something to reference when I want to write things in a thesis like "a distribution was defined as skewed if z scores were larger than 2.58" - other than cause the statistics lecturer...

Re: Newly Qualified refs

gosh.... I can't even think about applying for any jobs yet, I mean I wouldn't even be able to start until beginning of October and that would only give a week's break between course end and work start. Would anyone even take an application seriously if the person couldn't start for another 9 months?!

Re: Salomons now to accept Self-Funded places

Couple of thoughts: Maybe other organisations will be sponsoring the candidate such as…… not sure actually! Private healthcare? The military? They might still be subject to a rigorous selection processes, but would a self-funding applicant be competing for one of places available to NHS funded appli...
