Re: Doldrums...ideas?

Thanks both! Sorry for a late reply - yesterday I was occupied with two sick kids :-( Lakeland, thanks that's a good idea. Even if I were to start very soon I would be interested in pursuing that route as an extra. Miriam, wow! I am in Cambridge, I don't know if that's a useful location? I'm at huw[...

Doldrums...ideas?

Hi all, After moving back to the UK after my PhD, I am now HCPC registered as a clinical psych and have been offered an NHS job. Going through the HR onboarding process there one hurdle which is taking longer than I hoped - my trust wants a "letter of good standing", basically a foreign DBS check, f...

LD reading for HCPC eval?

Hi all, The latest stage in my HCPC accreditation with a qualification from abroad is invitation to a 90 minute oral exam which will focus on Learning Disability and clinical audit. I want to do some preparatory reading but I am aware there is some discrepancy between the US and UK in terms of "core...

Re: Service evaluation/independent audit

Thanks Maven - there are other items on the form so I will have to see what else I can find out.

Service evaluation/independent audit

Hello, For those keeping score at home, I am in the process of applying to the HCPC for registration as a clinical psych in the UK. I recently heard back with a request for more information. One issue raised was the lack of evidence of my having conducted an independent audit or service evaluation d...

Re: HCPC/BPS and foreign doctorates

Thanks Maven, this is as I had thought, and I was surprised to see it as a stipulation in quite a few job postings. Does anyone know if psychology services tend to have this as a preference when recruiting?

HCPC/BPS and foreign doctorates

Sorry to add to the copious verbiage on this issue, but I have a question about coming to NHS jobs with a foreign qualification. I have just finished a clinical psych PhD in New York and am now doing a 1 year clinical postdoc job here. I am applying for HCPC registration as I am moving back to the U...

Re: Appropriate Qual Method

Thanks for your thoughts Sarah and Lingua Franca. I'm aiming at 20, but I may do more at the current rate. The interviews are semi-structured, and are yielding moderately code-able answers so far. Content analysis looks appropriate, but I will also look into examples of thematic analysis.

Appropriate Qual Method

Hi all, I am doing some research in a psychiatric service interviewing people about their delusions. I have a specific question in mind (are delusions beliefs?) and am getting a lot of qualitative data that could speak to that question (I have a bunch of prompts that I have designed to investigate w...

Re: HCPC registration for non UK

Hi Apelikan, Yes, I am finishing up my PhD in the US. I have a postdoctoral position lined up this next academic year, but in 2018 my wife will take up a job in the UK and we will move back, so I want to become chartered in the UK to continue my career. How easy has it been for you to find placements?

Re: HCPC registration for non UK

Hi Apelikan, I was browsing this page because I may find myself in a similar position soon. If I were you I would contact NHS psychologists located in clinical departments relevant to the placements you need to do. When I worked in one I was under the supervision of a very sweet psychologist who had...

Re: American PhD in Clinical Psychology

So I have been inactive on this forum for a long time, but I periodically get messages asking me about how to apply to a US PhD in clinical psych. I have not been able to reply to them all, and I feel super guilty, so I thought the best thing to do would be to post my advice here publicly. I hope it...
