Re: How much more can IAPT accommodate?

I don't have solutions for you, but I do feel that the same thing is happening all over the health system - less skilled people are being expected to do more and more skilled work. I see it in the pseudo-doctors who are being asked to assess undifferentiated patients at the GP or to help in ward rou...

Re: Loosing hope as an international applicant, unsure if I need to reconsider my career options

You seem to have some quite strange and unrealistic beliefs. Why would getting a visa in 2026 mean you can't start the course until 2028? You can apply in November for a place that starts the next September. And 29 is the average age to get on the course, so at 25 you are nowhere near being left beh...

Re: University of Surrey 2022 entry: Online Q&A

You are bumping a three year old thread hoping to get a response from people who are not regular posters but did a one-off event on the forum. You need to email the course and ask them.

Re: Issues with clinical reference

I am planning on applying for the first time in November 2024. I haven’t worked as an AP, or under the supervision of a CP but I’m confident that I want to start applying even for the experience of applying. I’m worried that since I haven’t worked with a CP, I don’t have a good enough reference. I ...

Re: Issues with clinical reference

If you put your managers personal email, you will automatically be rejected. What is your source for this assertion? some may reject you for not having that supervision with a CP whilst others are more lenient. Again, what is your source? Plenty of people get onto training without a CP reference ev...

I think you need to ask UEL how they shortlist, not us, I'm afraid.

Re: Multiple sections, how should I break this up?

It is forcing you to reflect on your experience, not just list it, and to say how it is relevant to that specific post. Both are essential skills in applying for posts in psychology, and I have written a lot about them. But please bear in mind that we don't allow people to solicit or provide informa...

Re: How to “stand out” in AP applications

It is fine to mention lived experience or experience of cultural diversity or minoritised groups, but the key skill is to show how you have learnt and reflected on your experiences and can tailor your application to show how your competencies match those being sought by the recruiter.

I suspect that's the answer then. I think if they've defined it, they'd have to follow it, otherwise they'd risk breaching equal opportunities.

Re: Question: Are PWP roles dying to CAP, AP and MHWP?

I'm guessing you are really young? AP posts long predate IAPT existing, and the pattern I see (as someone shortlisting and supervising AP posts for the last 25 years) is that more people are turning to IAPT and alternative pathways as the government invest in lower cost alternatives to fully qualifi...

I’d keep it quite short, but maybe pick out a couple of key skills to showcase in more detail.

Re: Can I realistically return to pursuing a career in clinical psychology?

You got a first and some relevant experience, so why start over at the bottom again rather than just applying for research and AP roles and/or training? You just need to sell your transferable skills and not talk yourself down. Even the political stuff could be a strength if you frame it right. Ther...
