Re: Interview for AP Band 4 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

I had an interview for an AP post at Stoke Mandeville a couple of years back and it was one of the most positive experiences (despite the rejection!). I have no idea if it is likely to be the same interviewers of course, but they were friendly and tried to get the best out of you. I’d say like any i...

Re: Reserve following Interview for AP roles

Hawke has given some really lovely reflections there for you to think about. I just wanted to add my recent experience... I interviewed for an AP role several months ago and was given feedback that they felt I had done really well and was the ‘second’ for the post, they said there was a chance a new...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1.) Still feeling rather irritated by an opportunity coming up at work as soon as I left, it felt a little bit of a slap in the face but sure it was unintentional 2.) I am a constant bundle of anxiety at the minute, I don’t do well with change and concerns about how things are going to work is reall...

Re: Change to PWP CBT therapy or assistant clinical psych

I’m quite surprised by your description of the role of a trainee forensic psychologist... the trainee where I currently work does a lot more than described! She designed and delivered a psychology group, and does mostly clinical work doing 1:1 interventions as well as running groups, delivers traini...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1.) Can’t believe it but after what seems like forever, all the disappointments and feeling I would never get anywhere I get offered two psych jobs in one week! So pleased to have had to make a decision I never thought I’d have to make - which job to take! Think I made the right call. 2.) Feeling ve...

Re: Out of employment/education. What can I do to help myself now?

It’s very frustrating taking those first steps on the ladder but you’ll get there! Try and enjoy the journey as much as you can and not race around and stress yourself out and focusing on doing too much - easier said than done I know!

Re: Out of employment/education. What can I do to help myself now?

Have a look at the open uni free courses or other free online courses or do some general reading if you’re keen to keep busy in that way! Otherwise I would suggest looking for health care assistant / support worker type roles to get started or trying charities linked to mental health / your local ho...

Re: The Cathartic thread - rant here!

That’s horrendous  Going down a bit of a negative spiral. I really need to get out of my current job as I’m not learning and developing anymore and as far as experience goes I’ve got as much psychologically as I’m likely to ever get and have had to fight to get that as is. They don’t owe me a...

Re: Shocking true confessions - My Selection Hell

I do really feel for you guys going through these applications but one thing to remember is that often with these applications there are such time pressures to get the application done - most vacancies I have seen in my area recently are up for less than a day, by the time I even get home from work ...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1.) Feeling a bit grim today, think I’m very tired and dehydrated, definitely haven’t drank enough, must get back to being good with drinking water 2.) Trying to steady the nerves for upcoming interview but the prospect of a presentation is very daunting 3.) Had a session with a patient today that r...

Re: which MSc?

Who’s telling you it’s not academically vigorous? I found it pretty intense! I did mine full time in one year but via distance learning which worked well for me as I carried on working full time. You need to find somewhere to do your placement which you don’t get much help with, placement needs to b...

Re: which MSc?

I did the MSc at QMUL. I really enjoyed the course but I’m not sure how much use it would be if you’re mainly interested in doing research. The research component was fairly small and the dissertation was a systematic review rather than original research. I would think you’d be better of doing a mas...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

Oh my goodness congratulations on the cat lingua! Oh and the whole potential home ownership thing ha! 1.) I keep mulling over my interview and it’s exceptionally irritating - keep trying to let it go and move forward 2.) The waiting game is the worst 3.) So good to see both a friend I haven’t seen i...
