Re: Training with chronic health?

Obviously only you will be able to comment on your particular experience of pain/fatigue/motor/cognitive problems but your course and employing NHS trust would need to make reasonable adjustments for you if you were to gain a training place. Such adjustments might include having placements closer to...

agree with this. My argument was "number of years" is a proxy for minimum experience, but not necessarily indicative of it!

Re: NHS Jobs Application

Thanks both. I've obviously listed my degree and where it was obtained under the qualifications section, so I assume they would know that I have GBC by looking at my university. I wouldn't make that assumption! It's probably safer to make it explicit somewhere. Not all degrees confer GBC and short-...

Re: NHS Jobs Application

The options you describe are what I would usually associate as appropriate for an AP post. If you are a BPS member, you could put that. Having Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC; i.e. holding a BPS accredited psychology degree) is not always a requirement for AP posts (I think it should be...

Re: The use of "consultant" as a professional title

I think some wires crossed. I was suggesting that any new guidance might avoid "years experience" as an explicit criterion when we know there are other specific criteria that can be stipulated.

Re: Conditional job offer withdrawn "due to funding". Advice

I suppose, technically, "in the process of completing conditions" does not equal "conditions met", so they could argue this if pushed to it. I'm not sure there is much you can do, subject to you discussing this briefly with an employment lawyer (or your union rep). You hadn't commenced employment be...

Re: The use of "consultant" as a professional title

I thought it used to be a minimum of 6 years WTE with your client group, the skills and experience that give you the gravitas and respect from others that allow you to lead, line management of others, and accountability for budgets, etc. I've never liked the idea of a (fairly arbitrary) "years expe...

Re: The use of "consultant" as a professional title

The BPS have been assessing B-grades against specific criteria for many many years. I think the criteria are now enshrined in the KSF and standard job descriptions for each grade under AfC. This was the old document about the process. Thanks, this is great and fairly clear. My suggestions would be ...

Re: The use of "consultant" as a professional title

Well, I'd want proper regulation of all therapists, but I'd start with any job title that mentions psychology or psychologist and bring them all under the HCPC remit. I'd then ensure that Consultant was only used where the 2 BPS assessors have been on the interview panel and determined that a) the ...

Re: Older + working + Clin Psych

On my course, there was only a half day for study each week. I took this as one full day per fortnight, and used it for childcare, fitting in uni work on evenings or at night when the kids were in bed. Some other courses have a full day per week for study, or even more if you are lucky - so if you ...

I'd like to know more about how the BPS assesses this in order to come to a decision. Is there any information on this?

I'm not 100% sure but I think they can "strike off" people for shorter time (suspend registration).

Re: Advice needed - HCPC registration

also worth noting that being "struck off" is rarely a life-long thing, and it is usually for a period of time (6 months, a year, 5 years, whatever). So if that time has passed, they will be allowed to re-register if they can demonstrate an appropriate CPD profile. Presumably you can check their name...
