Re: Standardised academic reference 10 years post MSc

I had a similar experience in that I had an academic reference from 10 years earlier and I had worked in various assistant psychology posts since and thus had lots of solid clinical references to pick from, but only one academic reference from someone who supervised me 10 years earlier. I had been s...

Re: Disappointment and rejection 2020 megathread

I have intentionally put this into the Disappointment and Rejection Mega-thread because I think it offers more useful information here than anywhere else. Please do move elsewhere if needed. 2006 – graduation from ‘red brick university’ with 2:1, Assistant Psychologist post, Research Assistant post,...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

Herts wrote to interviewees - "Unfortunately, we have heard from other programmes that a minority of candidates seem to have used techniques to give themselves more advantage because the interviews were conducted remotely." We now need to show photographic ID at the start of the interview - it makes...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread

Just read the interview details from Herts. Is anyone else upset that people have been cheating their way through interviews due to the nature of them being online? Of course it's tempting- we are all human - but it feels so immoral and now I wonder how I'd be able to relate to a potential cohort wh...

Re: Rejected 5 times, am I overreacting?

lots of great suggestions-
what I find useful is to film myself during mock interviews or even just practising at home alone .
it's helpful to see what I sound and look like.

Re: Professional Development Days 2018 (interview preparatio

Thanks for organising this, that's so helpful. Unfortunately I can't get to the peak district (too far) and I'm away during the half-term hols (I have kids!). I'd be really grateful if you'd be able to arrange for a third occasion in London.

Herts Written Exam

I would like to prepare for the written exam for the herts course, in case I get an interview. My writing skills need brushing up (speed, eloquence, putting thoughts on paper) and I can't wait with this until I know whether I am offered an interview or not. Has anyone had a written interview and can...

Re: Clinical reference

I wonder if you can see it another way, such that despite knowing your “weaknesses”, your referee was still happy to write you a reference. Might this not suggest that they see your potential, regardless of any flaws or past concerns? I’d say that’s actually pretty complimentary. Yes, I suppose so....

Re: Clinical reference

Really helpful replies, thank you both. I think the referee's remarks were valid and of course I have things to work on (as said, applicants aren't 'finished products'), but I suppose I felt it hard-going to use the reference as a place to give me those insights (wouldn't supervision and reflection ...

Clinical reference

My clinical referee offered to discuss with me what she was going write in my reference. When grading me on various aspects on a point scale 1-5, for a number of questions she said she was going to rate me as either 3 or 4 out of 5. I am of course devastated because I was hoping that she would give ...
