Masculinity and Mental Health: Online Survey

I'm a trainee clinical psychologist from the University of Surrey (ethics approved by their commitee including use of internet recruitment) and I am being supervised by Dr Kate Gleeson. For my research, I am looking at the links between masculinity, shame, and psychological distress. I like to invit...

Re: Surrey Course

Hi, I'm a current trainee on the course. My experience of the team is that they are supportive. The course has recently moved to be more systemic oriented and are seeking to get systemic accreditation at introductary level embedded within the course. Having said that, the course does teach a range o...

Re: Trainee PWP Interview

Hi NRS, Congratuluations on the job interview. This would mean that you have good qualities already as these posts tends to be quite a competetitive. Apart from your usual interview, you may or may not also have to do a roleplay involving interacting with a client. There should be videos on the IAPT...

Re: 2:2 Mature student what next?

It is possible to get into iapt as a pwp with your background. It might be worth looking at personal specs of pwp jobs to see what they ask for you. Some iapt services also offer honorary posts.

Re: Research or something else?

I guess the best way to think about career options without quitting your job, is research and talk to other people who have gone down the clinical or PhD routes. I haven't done an academic PhD, but my friend who is doing once said that you should love your topic as much as you love your partner. My ...

I think in terms of supervision, it should be at least on a monthly basis, but not too sure

Re: Caseload

I'm currently a first year trainee and I currently have about 5 people on my caseload, but I have 2.5 days a week on placement, if that helps. I don't think caseload size is a case about being 'lazy'. I see it as primarily about what your learning needs are. This will be informed by your level of ex...

Re: Generic Person Specification

Hi Jack, Within the context of NHS/UK-statutory service settings, clinical-research experience to me is more about conducting audits/service evaluations. As audits/service evaluations can vary, I would say that this does not necessarily mean face to face contact with clinically relevant population. ...

Re: Conversion course and career change advice please

Hi Piranha, In terms of exploring what clinical psychology entails and relevant work experience, there is a wiki section on this site called the path to qualifying as a clinical psychologist in the UK- http://www.clinpsy.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=17. I feel you may benefit from exploring what occ...

Re: Research assistant relevance and definition?

As you have alluded, research assistant roles can vary in terms of their requirements, with some being suitable after you graduated from undergrad and some requiring more skills/experience. However, from my understanding the term can apply across different levels of requirements. Research assistant ...

Re: Inpatient Experience

Hi, It sounds very relevant what you are doing at the moment. I do have some other suggestions that might also be helpful: - Co-facillating training sessions - Shadowering other staffs which can be useful to learn different styles eg OTs running groups or even family therapy sessions if possible - S...
