Re: Any AP's/psychology graduates in Glasgow?
Hi guys, I'm originally from Glasgow but have jumped ship to the East Coast for a new job. Is WOSPAG officially no more? I knew Avril Smith, the AP in Forensic CAMHS used to run it but I also know she had a baby. However, I thought someone would have taken this up in her place. I just wanted to let ...

Re: Research ideas on learning disabilities
Why don't you do a service provision audit to see how well the service stands up against NSF and other DOH guidelines and legislation.
E.g. For my Postgrad I evaluated the social inclusiveness of the service I worked in.
Easy to do in-house

Paper needed
Hi all, I've been trying to get a copy of this article for days but the university I work at uses Gale Cengage Expanded Academic ASAP to access this particular journal and only has articles dated from 2002 and onwards whereas this paper is dated 2001. The paper is: Napthine, A. (2001) Empowering peo...

Re: BBC3 - "Don't Call Me Crazy" on tonight (24.06.13) 9pm
It was a bit odd that the two OTs seemed to be doing a majority of the therapeutic work , although I assume this is because any psychology work was not filmed due to confidentiality agreements for filming (odd that that used their real names and filmed MDT meetings though).. Having worked on variou...

My apologies.. I just read that you accepted the job. Well done and congratulations. I'm sure it will be a great choice for you. However, I advise you to consider what I've said above in general and for picking job roles from here on in. I appreciate where you're both coming from in terms of finding...

Re: Hospital setting versus community setting- What is bette
Hi Kate, I wanted to offer my advice as an aspiring CP trainee who has worked across most mental health settings you can think of (community support worker and key worker, forensic inpatient healthcare assistant, older peoples' inpatient healthcare assistant, eating disorders inpatient and outpatien...

Re: Why is the average age 28?
I have now read through the entire thread and am glad I did as it made for very interesting reading with lots of themes to explore. My thoughts then: To go back to the original discussion; age, in my opinion, is just another potential barrier to forming a good therapeutic alliance such as socioencon...

Re: Why is the average age 28?
I haven't read through the entire thread here so forgive me if I'm treading on anyone's toes or repeating what has already but the statements about a therapist or indeed anyone who works in a therapeutic role with people with mental health issues being better at their job if they have empathy in the...

Re: Where to go from here
I just wanted to throw my 2 pence in here and remind you as well about the value of research skills on some courses. Many institutions, especially the older ones, will ask about your understanding of psychological research methods. I don't know how much you covered this in your undergrad. I don't me...

Re: Fixed term roles and finance
Hey Srlb2 I've just been through exactly the same process. I have a 2 year fixed-term RA post and I've just applied for finance for a car. I suppose the main thing is the type of finance. If you opt for PCP you're effectively just hiring the car from the dealer and if it's no longer financially viab...
