Re: Courses with Systemic Pathway

Plymouth has a systemic/family pathway - all trainees get their AFT foundation qualification in year 1 and you can do your AFT Intermediate qualification in year 3 as an option.

Re: Exeter 2017

Hi Exeter folks. I'm a 2nd year Plymouth trainee, but have lived in Exeter for the last 18 years and have all Exeter placements. I hope to met some of you as we have a cross uni/cross year social group for all the folks who are on placement in Exeter. I'm posting as I have a flat for rent in Exeter ...

Re: 35 year old considering applying for ClinPsy next year

Hi Andysing, I'm 44 and a parent of 2, about to start my second year of training. I am not the oldest in my cohort, nor am I the only parent, so I would say that neither age nor parenthood are barriers to training. I echo the previous poster in suggesting that you be very clear about what you think ...

I am 44, in my first year of training and not the oldest person on my course :-).

Re: Plymouth or/and Exeter or/and based in Cornwall

Hi Jen, I applied for Exeter and Plymouth - seemed silly not to apply to Exeter as I live there, but I knew they probably wouldn't be interested in me. The Exeter course has a strong research background and is very CBT focused and neither of those are areas of strength for me! Sure enough I didn't g...

Re: Plymouth or/and Exeter or/and based in Cornwall

Hi Jen, I'm about to start at Plymouth in September and I live in Exeter. The Plymouth placements are currently 2 in Exeter, 2 in South Devon, 4 in Plymouth and 5 in Cornwall, so you'd be quite likely to get a placement in Cornwall if that's what you wanted. Plymouth allocate their placement bases a...

Re: Advice for mature applicant / parent starting out

Hi All, Such an interesting thread, and I echo the sentiments of others in saying yes please, a parenting thread would be really helpful. To try and keep this reply to a reasonable length I won't comment on some of the themes here around how hard it is being a parent and doing anything else (it is) ...

Re: Plymouth 2016

I know what you mean about it not feeling real! I've got 2 jobs that I need to resign from before September and for one of them I'm on 3 months' notice, which means I'll have to resign before I have a formal contract in place - that feels a bit nervewracking! Thanks for the info on term starting - t...

Re: Plymouth 2016

Hi jsav1990. I'm guessing that most placements in South Devon will be in the Torquay/Paington area, so that would be an option if you want to live somewhere with a bit more going on and also to reduce travel to placement. Some beautiful beaches as well. As with Plymouth, be a bit careful in Torquay ...

Re: Plymouth 2016

Hooray, more Plymouth posters - hi :D It is a bit quiet compared to some of the other course threads, but I guess Plymouth is a quite a small course. I'm so excited at the prospect of starting and very curious to meet everyone else. I already live in Devon (Exeter) so won't be relocating, and deligh...

Re: What experience did you have when you got on training?

I've been following this for a while too and thought I might post my experiences in case there's anyone else like me out there. I'm 43 and have been re-training myself for a career in psychology having previously worked in communications in the NHS. I decided that I wanted to move to a career in psy...

Plymouth 2016

Thought I'd start a new thread to see if anyone else is around that will be going to Plymouth this September. I met some lovely people at the interviews last Thursday, very much hoping some of them will be on the course. My training base is Exeter, which I'm delighted with as it's where I live :-). ...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

Hi - I've heard from Plymouth. Same experience as the other poster, got an email, then a message saying it had been recalled but then a second email offering interview. I'm turning up for an interview now even if I get another recall message!
