Re: Deciding to withdraw from the process

I thought I'd share my recent decision on here because it might be useful for other people having doubts to know that they're not alone. I was due to have an interview next week at IoPPN - my first and only in three years applying - and I withdrew earlier this week. For the last month or so I'd been...

Feeling a bit deflated but okay. The fact that I still have to wait around now is the hardest bit! Congrats to everyone who got interviews and very best of luck. Good luck to others waiting on reserve lists!

Re: Reserve lists

Hi guys, Thanks laydee for starting this up. Can't understand a course witholding where you are the the list btw, that's pretty weird! I'm on the royal holloway reserve list. First year applying so it's actually boosted my spirits a bit after 3 other rejections (there is hope!) Apparently they are g...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2015

After expecting a fourth outright rejection, this happened today: UCL IoP UEL Royal Holloway Apparently they'll tell us by next Friday where we are on the list. Let more waiting begin! Huge congrats to those with interviews and commiserations to those without. And hi to the others stuck in limbo :)....

Not at all surprised but quite disappointed all the same. First time applying and I don't have much relevant experience yet so I guess it's the beginning of a process!

Best of luck to everyone!!

Re: Overcoming trauma and working in psychology

Hey, Nothing wrong with seeking reassurance! I guess that only you know if it's something you feel you'd be able to manage. You say you work - how do you find managing emotional interactions with others now? There's a big difference I find between containing emotional / stressful situations in a pro...

Re: Overcoming trauma and working in psychology

Hi badscience, I just thought I'd say 'hi' because you seem to be asking for a bit of reassurance there! I have a similar story - lived with an alcoholic father and neglectful mother, escaped into school and fell apart for quite a while after uni. Reflecting on it, while difficult, has felt like som...

Re: Newbie in need of advice

Hi Bryony - no, just afterwards. I'm surprised you were told that because I had no problem with it at all. I also know a girl who got one to fund an English lit masters which seems a lot less vocational. Who told you this - someone at the national careers service directly? Worth looking into again i...

Re: Newbie in need of advice

I took out a career development loan to do my conversion course. While I know this may not be for everyone (especially given the state of the job market currently) for me it was a risk which has paid off (so far anyway!!) I took out the full 10k to cover fees and living costs. I've worked as a suppo...

Re: is volunteer counselling appropriate for pursuing clin p

Anything that gives you some initial experience in mental health will be useful and hopefully you'd enjoy it for its own sake. However, you feel a bit concerned about your lack of experience - are the charity offering training before you're in the role? I think this is really important in anything -...

Re: HAP vs. Additional Support Auxilllary

Hey Kate, I'm guessing that HAP is honorary assistant psychologist? I would go for a paid role where you're going to learn something new over voluntary work for sure, especially as you've been volunteering for 8 months now - quite a long time. I shouldn't think that not working as an HAP at the time...

Was it just me or was anyone else left really intrigued by that latest letter, wondering what alternative careers Lauren Bishop is now considering?
