Re: Open Days for Clinical Doctorate courses: 2011/12 entry
We are currently surveying trainees for the 2012 entry Alternative Handbook, the deadline is at the end of this month.
The Alternative Handbook comes out at roundabout the same time each year, if you can get hold of previous years' copies they're probably still worth a look.

Re: Viva outcome
Congratulations Elizabeth, just goes to show that sometimes we imagine the worst and the reality is different
Can I just be pernickety though and remind everyone that an MPhil does not necessarily equate with a 'failed PhD' as you can do one as a qualification itself among other routes

Re: Edinburgh 2011
Congrats to all the new cohort of Edinburgh trainees! I'm a 5 year trainee currently in my third year so I may come across you at some point. A lot of your questions have already been answered on the previous cohort threads on here if you do a quick search, e.g. the 2009 one here has lots of useful ...

Re: Is IAPT failing people with medical problems?
I don't think any good psychologist or other professional would argue that physical symptoms, such as those you experienced, are not real. I think it is short sighted for any professional to rely solely on one model to explain presenting difficulties (eg medical model, psychological model), as our p...

Re: AP interview - 10 min presentation on ANYTHING?!
It sounds like they are trying to get a sense of your communication skills, so I'd pick something that you're confident talking about and are interested in. Clearly, they don't mind what this is on so go with what you think you'd be good at presenting.

The Health Service is also different in Ireland I believe.

Re: Edinburgh course - working week...
I think trainees on most courses work roughly 9-5, 37.5 hours a week as stated in their contract. This obviously encompasses any lectures or official study time, as well as time spent working on placement. Generally, 3 year trainees spend 4 days a week on placement with one study day a week during t...
