Choosing DClinPsy Thesis Topic
Hello all, Our cohort are now tasked with deciding on a thesis topic, and I wanted to ask all you ‘qualified’s’ whether you found your choice of thesis topic helped/impeded/made no difference your job prospects? Did you study a topic linked to your ideal qualified job or elective placements? While I...

Re: Training during COVID
Hope this helps and good luck starting the course. Thank you Malcom for chipping in with your thoughts and experiences. We got our timetable yesterday, which has certainly helped to ramp up the excitement, and we've arranged to meet face-to-face after our first day since we're on campus. Your post ...

Training during COVID
Hello, I wasn't sure where else to put this really. I,like many others on this site, will be starting training this Autumn. Again, like many, my course will be delivered in a blended way, with only key clinical skills workshops being delivered in person. Whilst I've been used to working from home ov...

Re: Application opening for 2021 intake
I really should definitely know the answer for this since it's been my routine for a number of years, but i'm not sure on the exact date. I know it is early in the month though, usually in the first week. You'll have until sometime in November to submit though, so there will be time. Good to get bit...

Re: Which Masters course to choose
Not necessarily. With London weighting it ended up better (financially) for me to go into an RA role, which is also what I wanted. Of course it depends on the masters you pick too, you can get good discounts too if you’re alumni. What you just said isn’t really a reason to not do a masters. This all...

Re: Which Masters course to choose
I agree that many other entry level posts don’t require it. It depends on the individuals situation. I personally knew I couldn’t afford to take an AP post or similar banded position so went to RA posts instead, and I know many people who have done so for the same reason. But I’d argue that actually...

Re: Which Masters course to choose
To my memory, nobody we've ever interviewed while i've been in post hasn't had a masters, because having one scores you extra 'points' I had a wonderful conversation with a trust today about moving away from using this points for privilege approach in order to stop reinforcing the structural inequa...

Re: Which Masters course to choose
You don't need a masters for any of the first step posts, and they shouldn't be hard to secure if you look outside the NHS. There are tons of vacancies in care work (with older people, people with learning disabilities, looked after children, etc), support work, healthcare assistant, classroom assi...

Re: Disappointment and rejection 2020 megathread
From 2011-2020 I have applied every year and never received one interview from any university. I've lurked the forum for years and this is my first post. I Just wanted to add to this thread in case there are others like me who are veterans at the application process and who share similar feelings o...

Re: Paperwork for starting in 2020
It seems to depend on the course. I received my conditional offer from the IoPPN about a week ago, some of my cohort have their unconditional ones now. My OH checks etc have been completed too. But likewise I know people with offers from other courses who have received very little info on this so far.

Re: Reserve list for places 2020
Hi, thank you for responding and letting me know. Congratulations on your place! That is of course sad to hear, did you call them to enquire as I haven't had a response to my email from a few weeks ago? Thank you! I tried calling but no answer as everyone’s working remotely, so I had to email. They...

Re: Reserve list for places 2020

I contacted them yesterday to enquire (as I have an offer now elsewhere) and they said they sent out t...

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread
Congratulations on getting a place at IoPPN. Can I just asked whether you were offered a place with spaces from additional funding for this year? I was told that they had filled all their places as everyone who was initially offered a place accepted. Thank you! Yes it was an extra place. I got an e...
