Re: Lack of Academic Reference

My MSc supervisor, who had been my academic referee on previous applications, had left her post and it had been a good few years since I'd completed my MSc so it didn't feel very current anyway. In one of my previous assistant posts I'd been involved in research and co-written academic papers - I as...

Re: Training as a Forensic Psych

Sorry about the mega late reply!! Thank you :D I think it depends on how you complete your placements - so I would've been self funding as I would've been an NHS employee, but working as a Band 6 Trainee Forensic Psych. However, I know those who work for HMPS have their fees paid and also ear...

Re: Cardiff 2018

They did say that they were hoping to start sending out employment stuff last week, so hopefully it won't be too much longer :)

Re: Cardiff 2018

I've been given Cwm Taf, which was my preferred choice so I'm really pleased :D

Re: Cardiff 2018

I'm from Swansea but will be moving in with my partner who lives in Pontypridd. Thanks Amy, its good to know a bit more about what to expect :) It'll be good to be able have some time to get to know everyone during the teaching block, before going on placement. When did you interview, Daffodil93? I ...

Re: Cardiff 2018

Hi both,

I'll be joining you at Cardiff this year. Very much looking forward to starting and meeting everyone!
Will either of you be moving for the course?

Re: What experience did you have when you got on training?

Pretty thrilled (and incredibly relieved!) to be posting here after six applications! Admittedly the first three were submitted when, looking back, I wasn't ready and didn't have much of a chance, but it's been a testing time - particularly the last two years. It's been a long old road but I've lear...

Re: Training as a Forensic Psych

As an aside, it might be worth you checking out the Cardiff Metropolitan University forensic practitioner course. It's an alternative to the BPS route, a bit cheaper and apparently doesn't take as long as the BPS route can. When I was interviewed there in February there were trainees working in pris...

Re: Reserve lists for places

I was on the reserve list for Exeter but have accepted a place at South Wales, so there'll be one less person on the list.

Re: What to do next!

I have a low 2:1 myself and despite also having an MSc it does appear to have held me back somewhat. I have 5 years experience as an AP and RA, publications and conference presentations and have struggled to get interviews until recently. I applied to Bangor this year and despite them awarding me t...

Re: 2018 Doctorate Application Progress thread

I don't know whether anyone is still waiting to hear from Exeter but after my clearing house status changed on Friday I emailed them; they confirmed that the update was correct and I did have an interview with them. They sent their decisions out on Wednesday but for some reason some people did not r...

Re: 2018 Doctorate Application Progress thread

My clearing house status has changed to "selected for interview" for Exeter but I've not heard from them either. I was waiting for a rejection email! :?

Re: Health Psychology - do i really have to do 2 Masters?!

I'm from a forensic background, but I believe the route to registration as a health psych is pretty similar, although I could be wrong! :) I'd imagine you'd need to complete the undergrad conversion, them an MSc in Health Psych and following that a minimum of two years of supervised practice as a tr...
