Recommended holiday reading?
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for holiday reading? I've had a look at the 'what I'm reading at the moment' thread, but I noticed a lot of the books are relatively heavy going and I'd like some 'lighter' books if possible.
Thanks in advance!

I've had to send this off before, but it was explained as being for my DBS check. Might be worth checking out if this is what they want them for?

Salomons and Surrey put their past papers online each year so you can see what they look like. No stats, just designing research experiments.

You definitely don't need to send it with your application, you just need to produce it at interview/screening test.

Re: Is autism undiagnosed in girls?
I've heard these statistics too. I remember reading an article which basically said that girls are far better at learning to copy social skills, meaning that they mask their symptoms a lot better as they get older - so by the sort of 5 year mark where boys begin getting diagnosed, girls are already ...

1. The 'heartbroken' post the other day was in regards to the guy I've been seeing. We'd both been trying, and failing, to keep things casual, we're both only here for a little while longer, we were hoping he would get this job in Birmingham which is also where I was looking to move back to anyway....

Re: First wage as a trainee - when?
Just to echo Geisha wife, it varies trust by trust. However I started end of September, and I didn't get my first wage until the end of October due to the pay date in my trust and the cut off dates.

Done! Really interesting survey - something I've very broadly heard of in passing but don't know much about. Good luck with the research!

Re: How many publications did you have when you got on train
I'm a first year trainee, I had 2 interviews and I had 0 publications. The vast majority of people of my course have 0 too - this really seems to be a myth that lasts year after year!

Re: Countries you'd really love to visit
I've ALWAYS wanted to go to Japan for the cherry blossoms. Definitely on my list of places to go as soon as possible! I'm also currently dying to go to Machu Picchu, Tanzania (mostly for Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, all of the conservation areas/national parks and the Serengeti) and New Zeland. I basicall...

Re: Formulation use for interview vignettes
In my interview I used a very basic CBT 5-Ps formulation, and I got a place so clearly it must be ok to use very generic formulations if you don't know specific ones! However, if you know a specific one, feel free to use it - just don't get yourself into a muddle thinking that you MUST use one. Good...

Just want to wish everyone all the best for this round of applications! Take as much time as you can for yourselves to relax and de-stress - I really cannot stress how important self care and self-compassion is during 'silly season'.
Good luck everyone!
