Re: Therapist Burnout

((Apologies in advance if this list sounds directive. It's just me listing as many ideas as I can think of, and it's a serious topic. Your wellbeing is super important!)) In all honesty, if you are experiencing burnout (and those symptoms you described!), the best thing you can do is go to your line...

Re: Being a PWP with a Disability

Hi there Catherine, I trained in-house as a Graduate Mental Health Worker so I didn't do the course, but I have been a PWP for over two years and am due to start HI training next week. During my time as PWP I was diagnosed with a disability (either narcolepsy type 2 or idiopathic hypersomnia as neur...

Re: core professions

I'm no expert (I'm going down the KSA route for my course that starts in October) but I believe you need evidence of a professional registration with a governing body? E.g. HCPC registration for a clin psych, NMC for nurses etc.

Re: Biting off more than you can chew

Thanks, Miriam. Amusingly, when you mentioned cognitive distortions and 'should/must/ought' rules, I started chiding myself, "Are you still doing that? You had CBT for this sort of thinking! You should have got a handle on it by now! You should..." Then I noticed what I was doing and was at least a...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1. Do your KSA, do your KSA, do your KSA, do your KSA 2. This does not bode well for HI if I can't get brain in gear to do work outside of working hours again! 3. That's probably not a bad thing though, now I've learned relaxation is a good thing, gotta find those new boundaries 4. Ill on my week of...

2.) I love my new job. It's the most rewarding but challenging thing I've done in a while. I'm teaching in a school for teenagers with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. Last week I had a student I'd never met before who began the lesson curled up in a monosyllabic ball on the sofa....

Congratulations Esuma & Lingua, and Miriam too -- lots of exciting and big things for you Miriam, I am in awe at everything you have going on! 1. Finally starting proper work on my KSA... as usual I am making it too big a task for myself 2. Fitbit giving me a "3kg lost" badge is surprisingly uplifti...

Re: Shocking true confessions - My Selection Hell

I'm not sure about that... I went to a rubbish state school and got taught covering letter/personal statement and also had 2 lectures on it at a (top, admittedly) non-Russell university.

Re: Coping with news of a former patient's suicide

You definitely have the right to grieve... however you're feeling, you have the right to feel. Any loss is hard, particularly a loss by suicide. I am glad that you are trying to comfort yourself. If they left the unit happy then you definitely all did a great job xx

Re: The Cathartic thread - rant here!

I am so sick of near-faceless upper-level management making decisions that affect ground floor clinical working practices without actually consulting clinical staff.... not only do their "solutions" not work and cause tons of issues... but we also have no idea of the problem they are trying to fix! ...
