Re: UEA 2016

I just wanted to chime in about traveling and expenses with living outside of your base. Absolutely do whatever's best for you, living wise, but justttt want you guys to know that you won't be reimbursed for any traveling between your home and base. And the only way you'll now get reimbursed for tra...

Re: UEA 2016

Congratulations to everyone!! I have just been offered a place off the reserve list, based in Fenlands. This might be a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering whether anyone placed in either Ipswich or Bury would like to swap (I know some people really don't mind where they are based). I have an e...

Re: What is the typical peak salary for a clinical psycholog

I really appreciate all the informative responses to this - I was a bit concerned they were going to be extremely negative/dismissive. It's also been interesting to consider how different everything may be in a decade or so with regard to salary. I probably should clarify that I never intended to w...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

Happy birthday, MindfulPsych, and enjoy your cake-y breakfast. Cake is food, and food doesn't have moral qualities or personality traits, so it is not cheeky or guilt-inducing - it is your delicious breakfast and an all round good idea. ;) Hear, hear! Cake whenever you want cake! This is the only w...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

Still in shock Birmingham!!!!!!!!!!! Finally done it, 5(2) applications in ;) (5 really but should be 2) Can I just say, as someone who has had quite a few posts where I was the only psych person, or the only person on the clinical treadmill, this forum has been a lifeline - you helped me when my A...

Re: UEA - How did you choose bases?

I didn't know they added a Yarmouth/Waveney base this year! Interesting! Sadly I don't really know about quality of placements in either base, but there's always variety and wiggle room for your development needs. Living wise, I'd probably lean towards Yarmouth too as you can live in/near Norwich if...

Somewhat unexpected to say the least!
Also put off calling Sheffield until Manchester was done.

Sorry to see those browns :(
What does purple Sheffield mean?!
I definitely see that as blue... uh oh....

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

Thanks for the support, folks! Re: reserve places, the email says "Please note that we cannot and do not discuss with reserve candidates their position on the list, so please do not request this information." so I think that's pretty definitive. I also hope they don't ring, because I live out of th...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

So far... Sheffield Leicester Birmingham Trent (test on Mon) Let's see how Leics reserve list moves. Conscious that it's during the first week though! You'd be surprised by how much 1st week interviews can move sometimes! :) I don't know about Leicester, but I know one of the early ones moved 13 la...

Re: The Great Big Progress Thread for 2016

Hi all, Was about to post my progress so far but been cut short rather sharply... I received an invitation to interview at Bath at around 1pm (yaaay) but have just received another saying I haven't been shortlisted (cry!). I have contacted them regarding this and am twitching waiting for a response...

Re: 5 things I'm thinking today. . .

1.) I'm in the US to present on my research. About 250 people came to my lecture, which I wasn't expecting, and the corridor to the auditorium had been transformed into a photo gallery showing the refugee camps I've been working in. A group of music students had composed original pieces based on th...

Re: Tax Refunds Wider Discussion

Should I be eligible for this in the coming months/years, I'll feel zero guilt or any moral ambiguity over going for it. Like Spatch talked about, I'm one of those people who paid my way through this process at great personal expense (still paying off the loan for my masters in fact, which I finishe...

Re: UEA - How did you choose bases?

Thanks so much, AnsweringBell! I may well PM you soon :). Cambridge would be my overall priority, but we are hoping to buy a house and settle in the area in the medium-term and prices in Cambridge are HIGH! I'm going to look into Ipswich further. It's worth considering slightly further out areas to...
