BPS guidance on phone work

Post by Coralie » Tue Apr 08, 2014 9:15 pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of any BPS guidance/policy/published discussion on communicating by telephone with clients? Perhaps in the context of a more general discussion of the use of communication technology in the psychologist-client relationship? I haven't found anything but am somewhat surprised and wondering if I've missed it.

If anyone can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Not sure about BPS stuff but telephone work is increasingly common in IAPT services, might be worth looking at their website?

I wrote this wiki about a million years ago but it might be a useful starting point for you. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=13462

You've missed it. Did you check the BPS website? There are two relevant BPS documents - e-Professionalism: Guidance on the use of social media by clinical psychologists and Provision of psychological services via the internet and other non-direct means.

THANK YOU! It is the wording that caught me out. I would never have thought of 'internet and other indirect means'!

That is because it is a ridiculously named document :P
