Issues/difficulties re: ASD/ADHD diagnosis in adults

Post by Cuulinical » Fri Aug 04, 2017 12:01 pm

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here could provide any insight into the difficulties surrounding the assessment and diagnosis of ASD and ADHD, particularly in adults.

For example, can it be difficult to track early developmental history in adults? Would clinicians spend as much time trying to understand this as they would when it comes to diagnosing children?

Does the ASD in adults present in a milder form as they have gone undetected throughout childhood? Does this make diagnosis more difficult?

I know there are some experienced clinicians on here that may have extensive experience in this area! Would be great to hear some opinions. :D

Hi! Your post really requires a complex response, especially as the assessments of and the trajectories for ADHD and ASD are very different. It would be helpful if you could say a bit about the reasons for your post and what you've found out about these issues yourself.
