what is 'supportive therapy'

Post by Psyfer » Fri Mar 29, 2019 5:55 pm

I have noticed that the NICE guidelines sometimes mention something called 'supportive therapy'. What is this?

I spotted it in the social anxiety disorder guidelines where it says;

'Do not routinely offer mindfulness-based interventions or supportive therapy to treat social anxiety disorder.'

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you

Might it be similar to Supportive Counselling which they used in the AVATAR study?
