Surrey / Salomons Exam

Post by ebeck » Thu Dec 01, 2016 12:25 pm

Hi,

Would anyone be interested in going over the 2016 paper and discussing how we'd tackle it? It's tricky I think, because in the MCQ there can be more than one right answer, and you only get the mark for choosing all correct answers (and no incorrect ones)...mean!

Also does anyone have any information on the Salomons online exam? It doesn't give much detail on the website about it. Is it like the Lancaster one or scenario based? Does it have to be done before the written exam? (Just trying to plan out my study/ preparation time!)

Regarding the salomons online test, they send the details nearer the time but you would have to do usually before the paper based exam. It is situational judgement test.

Have people heard back about whether they have been invited for the written test?

I don't think we'll hear until after the 31st, the deadline for applications. I read online that people should have been notified by the 3rd, and the test is on the 11th. It was a quick turn around last year -If you are confident that you have met the entry criteria, I might recommend starting any revision that you would want to do now.

Are there any good online materials you would recommend reading, ideally something that encapsulates all of basics for research methods and statistics relevant for the exam? I kind of don't know where to start with studying. I will of course look at past papers. Thank you beforehand.

Some stuff on stats under take the tour at https://statistics.laerd.com/ or you can pay £5 to access their content. Or coursera has some free online courses (but they go into more than basics which felt overwhelming to me). I'm sticking with my notes and the text I had when getting gbc...

I have found youtube to be quite helpful. Either click the link or type "NYU stats" into the search bar. I have dyspraxia and find that information does not stick when I just read it and need audio cues to help.

Damnit, would have loved to go through that MCQ paper if I'd remembered this forum existed before today!

Really not sure how best to revise now it's MCQ rather than written test. I was hoping I'd blag my way through in on the revision I did for a research methods exam in January but I guess we shall see come Saturday.

Anyone done the online tests yet? I'm still putting it off...
