Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread
First year applying, I went in with the mindset ‘this is just a trial run’ but as more time passes, the more invested I become

First time applying for me and first bad news received yesterday
Bath
Cardiff (sat test)
Plymouth (sat test)
Salomans (sat test)
I didn't finish the deductive reasoning test for Cardiff/Plymouth - feel like they were answerable but just needed a lot longer to work them out (slow brain!). Verbal reasoning was OK. Also found situational judgement for Salomans harder than expected (am coming from an academic rather than clinical background).
I too am far more invested than I thought I would be, given that this is a 'practice run'!
Good luck everyone - great to see some of you have interviews

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Applicants
Thank you for reminding all of us of this. I actually came across your open letter last year, when I was still contemplating whether I would even stand a chance as a marginalized non-UK citizen. I have been reading the letter and the replies to the thread every now and then ever since, and every time I find something new that resonates with me.Spatch wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 2:20 pm A plea to folks on this thread. It's really helpful to see people who get interviews, but probably moreso when people post that they haven't. The process is notorious for making really good, capable candidates feel devalued, and people are often left alone with that feeling. Often family members, friends and peers not privy to the process don't really understand the levels of competition and what is involved. Hearing you are not alone is incredibly important so people don't internalise rejection and are able to see equally capable people struggling on this pathway. I know it's often validating to post successes and to keep quiet and lick your wounds when things haven't worked out, but please do post reds and browns as much as any other colour for that reason.
I wrote this open letter to rejectees in 2014 (which is scarily now 6 years ago) https://www.clinpsy.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 8&start=15 and I still stand by what I wrote back then and hope it brings comfort to someone. At selection for interview the gap between success and failure is so thin, I am now in the situation of actually hiring qualifieds for permanant posts being fully aware I was involved in rejecting them for a particular training course when they applied for training. As time moves on, I am aware I feel less and less certain about things, and more about the importance of applying compassion to this difficult and opaque process.
It's a long and enervating process, and knowing that we're all together in this is comforting.

Hi everyone,
First timer here - It’s nice to see others doing a trial run as well and getting as eagerly invested as I am (even though I said It wouldn’t matter first time round!)
Cardiff
Salomons (sat test)
IoPPN
Trent (sat test) - I found this test very difficult so I’m not staying too optimistic. Sadly the dreaded test anxiety took over...
Good luck everybody

Good luck everyone. All of the determination within the forum is refreshing!

Re: 2020 Clinical Doctorate Application Progress Thread
Hello All,
This is my second time applying.
I have a BSc Hons in Psychological Studies (2:1), an MSc in Psychology (Merit), 14 months experience working as a Complex Needs Support Worker and 12 months as an Assistant Psychologist (6 months CMHT & 6 months ABI - still ongoing). I was fortunate enough to have my MSc research project published recently, which was very exciting, albeit a rather arduous process but worth it in the end.
Prior to this I had a reasonably successful career for 15 years in digital advertising.
I have applied to:
Bath
Birmingham
Coventry & Warwick
IoPPN
I wish you all every success and hope to see some of you in September.
God Bless. It is in His hands now.
