Volunteer Bereavement Support Worker

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a volunteer position within our bereavement organisation. Our organisation is in the midst of developing to provide wider support across the country and we are looking forward to welcoming a new face to the team to help us do so.

POSITION: Volunteer Bereavement Support Worker

REPORTS TO: Support Group Founder

SUPERVISED BY: Trainee Clinical Psychologists

HOURS: 0.2 W.T.E (equivalent of 1 day per week, distribution of which is flexible)

LOCATION: Work from home and locations within central London

PURPOSE: The Bereaved Partners Support Group (BPSG) is a support group for people who are bereaved by cancer. The aim of the group is to create a regular space for people to share stories and experiences with others who have experienced a similar kind of loss. We are looking for a highly competent and interested volunteer to join our team and contribute to the group’s development.

• To be responsible for regular advertisement of the group
• To search and disseminate relevant articles and other materials to the group
website and to regularly update social networking sites
• Media liaison
• To undertake written tasks as and when they are required
• To attend group supervision provided by trainee clinical psychologists
• To manage communications from members which will include dealing with highly emotive content
• May be required to undertake risk assessments of highly distressed individuals
• To liaise with various health professionals such as doctors, psychologists and Specialist oncology services



• Efficient written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Sensitive and empathic manner
• Knowledge and experience of up-to-date social networking
• High level of I.T and computer skills
• Ability to take initiative and a forward thinking approach
• To be able to travel to central London one afternoon a week for feedback meetings with the group founder
• Access to a personal computer and the internet

• Experience with bereavement
• Previous experience of group working
• Experience of advertising and marketing
• Ability to provide creative and innovative ideas for networking
• A 2:1 or above in psychology or another relevant degree
