Qualified Clinical Psychologist - Milton Keynes (B7-8b equi)

Post by miriam » Wed Sep 24, 2014 11:25 am

Our two partner companies - Evolving Families (Social Enterprise) and LifePsychol Ltd are seeking a qualified Clinical Psychologist with an interest in having a very varied post.

We have available several pieces of work including one session of input into a chronic pain service, some therapy work including sessions over Skype (mostly with adults) and some court expert witness work with parents and/or complex children and families. At the moment this makes enough work for a part-time post at band 7, 8a or 8b equivalent, which would probably be in the region of 10-22 hours per week (banding according to experience, arrangement and number of hours can be arranged to suit) but if the post works well, this could expand into full-time work by the end of the year if this is wanted -and for an exceptional band 7 candidate we would consider a full-time appointment from the start.

You may be qualifying from clinical training this year or have some experience since you qualified and be looking for a next step. Either way, we want to hear from you.

The role will involve contributing to several different projects including:

• Contributing to expert psychological assessments for the family court exploring parenting capacity, children’s needs, family relationships, placement and contact plans (there can be a lot of training and supervision for this part of the work, and we have a well-established protocol to follow, so you don't necessarily need experience of this kind of work)
• Providing therapy for children with paediatric health conditions, including diabetes
• Providing therapy for adults with diabetes (if this contract is commissioned)
• Working as part of an MDT with people experiencing chronic pain
• Contributing to research, publications and presentations
• Supervision and support of other therapists, Assistants, Trainees, Interns and other staff, along with active participation in your own supervision

This is not an NHS post, and has different terms and conditions (see job description).

You need to be passionate about reducing psychological distress and improving the interpersonal relationships and resilience of children and families who have experienced trauma or adversity. You will want to work where the clinical need is greatest and the potential impact most profound, rather than being daunted by complexity. You want to provide high quality services that are evidence based and bespoke to each individual we work with. As a clinical psychology company we want someone who is proud of the unique skills that a clinical psychologist can offer and able to articulate these to others. Being outside the NHS also requires a more adventurous spirit as our business model relies on our passion and the quality of services we provide. You need to be organised, creative and able to think on your feet, with top notch written and verbal communication skills and the ability to form clear formulations and explain them to others. An interest in attachment relationships, Looked After and adopted children, parenting, working psychologically with physical health conditions and/or working with survivors of trauma and abuse is essential, though direct experience of these client groups, whilst beneficial, is not essential.

In return we think we provide a quality of working life that is head and shoulders above the norm. We are a small company with a very friendly and supportive team with a pleasant working environment. We pride ourselves on a model of personal and professional development which gives the opportunity for each member of staff to demonstrate their skills and develop their own role within the company. There is plentiful free parking for staff and clients, and we provide tea/coffee, a sandwich lunch when away from the office and a great working environment. You can set your own pattern of working hours and will have the chance to spend a proportion of your working time developing your own interests, with plenty of supervision and opportunities for shadowing and joint working. Our staff are our most important resource and we don’t want to bog you down with unnecessary administration, user-unfriendly databases or irrelevant mandatory training. You will have your own desk and storage, plus the right equipment, materials, training and administrative support to focus on doing the clinical aspects of the job brilliantly. You will have the opportunity to help decide the direction in which the companies develop, and contribute to our research, publications and conference presentations. We have a strong track record of supporting career development and letting staff show us what they can grow into.

We offer a salary of £30,000-£40,000 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) with an annual bonus of up to 5% of salary based on an annual appraisal and the profit of the company in that financial year.

The role will be based in our pleasant offices in the Broughton area of Milton Keynes. The existing staff include a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, a part-time Clinical Psychologist with a focus on the therapy aspect of the business, a graduate psychologist, an admin, an operational manager, a trainee forensic and clinical psychologist will be on placement from next month. We expect to gradually expand over the coming years, and hope that our staff will grow with us.

Any job offers would be subject to DBS checks, HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist, evidence of professional indemnity insurance and satisfactory references.

For enquiries or to arrange an informal visit please email Dr Miriam Silver, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Lifepsychol@gmail.com

Applications will be considered as they arrive until the post is filled, and interview dates will be set by mutual agreement.
Miriam
