Congratulations :)

Yeah I thought the same....it was a total shock.

What placement area did you get allocated?

I have been allocated Cornwall (unfortunately, simply because I already live in Devon and the commute from where I live is about 2 1/2 hours....)

Hi,

I am also going to be starting at Plymouth in September (can't believe I have actually written those words!).
I am also going to be based in Cornwall, it was my preferred placement base.

First off, Congratulations to you all!!! (i'm a first year trainee and looking forward to meeting you all in September, i'm based in Plymouth)

Was just wondering Bronwen1991, are you planning on staying in Devon and commuting? Or are you moving to Cornwall? I might have misunderstood your post, but it reads like you're planning on commuting and just wondered if you'd thought that through, and maybe you might want to chat to some Cornwall trainees if that was your plan.

Hi

I am thinking through my options at present... but I am not sure moving is an option. Obviously I can't turn down this opportunity, but feeling abit stuck with it all.

If I am honest I am hoping with all the change that can occur between now and June, perhaps someone may turn down an offer and I could be offered somewhere closer....I dont know how it works.....

I definately would benefit from chatting with anyone based in Cornwall!

Ahh lucky Syd, that was my preferred base!

Whereabouts are you from?

It's very exciting but strange to think we now have 5 months to wait to start...

It's a shame moving wouldn't be an option, send me a direct message with your email address and i can put you in touch with a couple of Cornwall trainees if you want. The only reason is you could end up based anywhere from Penzance to Bude and you don't get a choice in it and also if you choose to live outside of your base you don't get the same expense allowances because you have chosen to do that so it can mean your commuting costs will rocket!!!

Last year, I was on the reserve list and one of the trainees was in the same position as you, she didn't want Cornwall, but when someone turned down a place in Plymouth it was offered to me on the reserve list and not her, despite her messaging and requesting to be changed if the opportunity arose. (this may have just been an error, but it meant she ended up in Cornwall and i ended up in Plymouth) - although now she will tell you that Cornwall is great and shes actually super happy there!

I hope it didn't across as patronising! I'm sure you are considering your options, but you could end up with a 3/4 hour commute just for placement when you factor in traffic as well and to be doing that 3-4 times a week is going to be really tough going!

Well there is no Exeter placements this year so I don't know how that might have impacted things

Hello everyone
I’m quite high on the reserve list.
From my current perspective, I’d be happy to go to any of the placement areas but I understand you might have preferences.
What I’d like to ask, is does anyone know how many of those offered a definite place typically don’t take up the offer?
Any year-on-year figures?
I’m just trying to work out how likely I am to join you :-)
Thanks and best wishes
Alex
