Any good summer psychology schemes?

Post by kezkel » Tue Mar 27, 2018 9:05 am

Hi all,
I am currently in my second year of a psychology Bsc at the University of Kent. My goal is to become a clinical psychologist.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any paid or voluntary schemes that would be good for me to look into. Im ideally looking for something to do this summer but would be happy to continue on to next year. I am looking for something that will give me either clinical or research experience. I have googled it and couldn't find one but thought someone on here my have heard of one.
Thanks

There are some internships and placements, and they are sometimes listed here, but these aren't a coherent scheme, they are just certain organisations and employers who have decided to offer this. You might just need to contact lots of CPs in your area offering to volunteer for that period of time and suggesting how you can make yourself useful, to see if one of them is prepared to offer something to you.

There used to be a Wellcome scheme to fund work placements in the summer after the second year, so that might be worth a google, but I don't know if it still exists.

Hi Kezkel,
I'm from Kent and I did a month volunteering over summer a few years ago at Headway, its a day centre for people with acquired brain injuries and is based at the Kent and Canterbury hospital.
This was really helpful in getting an AP job, as your working with a clinical group and can learn about neuro rehab.
I'd recommend contacting them, this is something you could probably carry on one day a week too etc. with studying if you'd like, they always want extra help.
