2nd year applying. Straight out rejections. Got no further than last year despite getting a promotion at work, completing a counselling course, having life coach training and being a supervisor at work.

We get a few people every year who either don't do them at all or do one (and usually do really well on it) and then don't do the other. Is there something you didn't realise when you applied?Yayasmama wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 1:22 pmSurrey

All BiG FAT NOs.sorry I don't know how to change the text colour.
I feel angry not at anyone but the process its just exhausting and disheartening. I think I might need to take a break for a year or so .
I was really unwell the whole of February .

Hi there,
Sorry, I only just saw this. I heard through email. The email was quite discreet; it came up with someone's name rather than "admissions@xuniversity", so it was quite easy to miss. Hope that you have since heard from them and that it was good news!

Hi Ben,
How do you know they googled you? I thought they were anonymous too, that seems like a violation of data protection?
Re: 2019 Doctorate Application Progress thread
I have a profile on Academia.edu; whenever someone Google’s my name I get an alert with their location. This was within a week or so submitting the SJT.Pencilcase123 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 10:32 amHi Ben,

At the time, I didn’t think much of it other than that they wanted to verify my publications.

Re: 2019 Doctorate Application Progress thread
I think that is a bit mistaken and misleading. You are being told the approximate location of the server used by an account. It might be total coincidence. It might be that someone in London's account bounced via a Scottish server. And you have no means to know that they Googled your name to reach that site, rather than someone looking up that paper, let alone that it was someone connected to the course.
But even if it was the case that someone googled a specific paper used in an application, that would be totally appropriate. You don't want people to be able to make up references. They are allowed to check them. It isn't a breach of data protection or confidentiality!
Re: 2019 Doctorate Application Progress thread
Pretty much what Miriam said. Also, I went to an event for Royal Holloway and they said that they do check any publications to ensure people aren't lying.

Hey! Has anyone interviewing at Bangor next week heard about their panel members? In the original invite pack it said panel member information will follow but not heard anything yet.
Not sure how long to leave it before sending a polite email asking! Thanks in advance

I was just querying the same thing. I was thinking of waiting until Thursday/Friday since interviews start on Monday.
What day is your interview?
